Once again we've been chosen to be nominated, that time as one of the top Ten Bleeding-Edge Open Source Companies.

We are very happy to get such attention. I think it's the result of our close work with our early adaptors, people who see the great potential and help us with their feedback.  We are very grateful to you.

The Apache Jackrabbit Project announces the release of Apache Jackrabbit 1.1.1 its open-source implementation of the Java Content Repository (JCR) API specification that is used by Mindquarry as the basic storage technology. Jackrabbit allows us to store, query and version control contents without much development overhead.

With the Mindquarry extensions to Apache Jackrabbit and Apache Cocoon it is possible to use Jackrabbit as a native XML store (it stores nodes instead of simply dumping text with angle brackets) with full XPath 1.0 support. These extensions will be made available with our first public release.

Usability is perceived as a weak point in many open source projects. Last week we had a workshop with Ellen Reitmayr who is involved in the usability efforts of the KDE project and incited openusability.org, a project that connects open source developers and usability engineers.

Her top-five requisites for success in open source usability are:

  1. A clear vision
  2. A defined process
  3. Responsible project-management
  4. Understanding incentives for contributors
  5. Open channels of communication

With Ellen's help we could re-structure our development process and prepare an infrastructure for and open development process that fosters usability.
