Wordpress and Planet

Martin has updated his weblog software. How do I know? Martin uses WordPress and the WordPress generated RSS feed does not include timestamps (at least the timestamps are not recoginized by the ultra-liberal feed parser). This parser is used in the Planet comminity aggregation engine and the Straw RSS new reader.

If you update a WordPress installation, the feed parser will think all your entries have changed and list them as new. And because you cannot correctly determine the timestamp of the entry, the Planet and Straw assume the downloadtime equals the timestamp.

This leads to ten new entries in my RSS reader that I already have read and to ten entries at every Planet-aggregated community weblog this WordPress installation is aggregated by.

The third edition of DocBook XSL: The Complete Guide has been released. This book is an great help for everyone who needs to modify the DocBook XSL Stylesheets and does not know where to start.

Robert Stayton, the autor of this book is member of the DocBook Open Repository project and a leading developer of the DocBook XSL Stylesheets. You will hardly find a person who knows the DocBook XSL Stylesheets better.

The third edition is avaialable for free as HTML online browsable version and for 39 USD for a single user PDF-license.

I bought the paperback version of the second edition and I will surely buy the third edition too as soon as it is available as paperback.

The list of changes in this edition includes updates to reflect the latest development of the DocBook XSL Stylesheets, installation of software and general updates. All in all this edition is 150 pages longer than the previous edition.
